The Forward Controls Design Augmented Bolt Catch — ABC/R V3 (ABC/R v3) is FCD's purpose-designed enhanced bolt catch and release for AR-15/M16 receivers equipped with ambidextrous magazine releases. The ABC/R (Augmented Bolt Catch/Release, Forward Controls) V3 addresses the ergonomic conflict between ambidextrous magazine catches (such as Norgon's Ambi-Catch) and the factory bolt catch's lower paddle — which share the same vertical plane, making identification by feel difficult, especially when gloved. The ABC/R V3's enlarged lower paddle protrudes further and is angled at 10 degrees, placing it on a different vertical plane from the ambi mag catch lever. The top paddle is enlarged with 5-degree and 10-degree cant angles for improved palm/thumb access. A tactile notch above the lower paddle provides a reference point by feel. V3 updates include: ledge on upper and lower paddles, forward/center/rearward upper paddle options, and a "butterfly" lower paddle with increased surface area. Machined from 8620 billet steel, heat treated, DLC coated.
