The Forward Controls Design Reinforced Buffer Retainer (RBF) is FCD's upgraded replacement for the factory AR-15 buffer retainer. The standard mil-spec buffer retainer is a known weak point in the AR-15 lower receiver — over time, repeated cycling and impact can cause the factory retainer to break or deform, allowing the buffer to exit the receiver during firing. FCD's RBF (Reinforced Buffer, Forward Controls) is machined from stronger material with improved geometry to resist breakage and maintain positive buffer retention under high-round-count use. A direct drop-in replacement requiring no receiver modification — just replace the factory retainer with the RBF.
